American Vampire #34 Review

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #34
by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque

Ugh... Mr. Snyder, you just had to make the half-a-year wait for issue 35 even harder.

So, there is no Pearl or Skinner in this issue, so I'm a tad disappointed. However, the main part of the issue is a massive tease fest. It introduces a new breed of vampire that... Well, they make quick work of this guy at a motel. The focus of this book is Felicia Book's mother, who we'll call Whatshername. Whatshername is visited by the nephew of James Book, who... You should just read the book yourself. Now, none of this really matters, because later this year, guess what we're getting? That's right, Santa Snyder is bringing TRAVIS !@#$ING KIDD BACK. However, this is still a review, so I'll say it's a nice read, albeit a bit boring in the beginning.

Albuquerque's art is as visually pleasing as it was in issue one. He makes it apparent that years have passed since the backup in issue six in his visual depiction of Whatshername. I really hope Albuquerque will draw more of the main series, because he really kicked butt during the motel sequence.

AV #34 is one of the slower issues of the runs, but it serves it purpose. The wait for issue 35  is going to be a long wait...

STORY: 4/5
ART: 5/5
VERDICT: 4.5/5
